What Are Well Woman Exams? 

A Well Woman Exam is a preventative measure specifically for women’s gynecologic health. During these exams, doctors can evaluate a woman’s reproductive system with a pap smear, pelvic exam, and breast exam. 

By participating in these exams, women teamed with their doctors can identify and treat diseases and illnesses early before they become life-threatening. 

Who Should Have A Well Woman Exam?

Everyone 21 or older is recommended by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists to participate in a Well Woman Exam. However, depending on your health history, specific symptoms, or other medical concerns, a nurse practitioner may recommend an exam for those younger than 21. 

How Long Does The Exam Take?

The exam itself is usually very quick and only takes a few minutes. However, your nurse practitioner will likely sit and speak with you about questions you may have or discuss any concerns with you.

Many women bring up their family planning goals, medical history, and symptoms. Nurse practitioners can help guide you and discuss treatment plans, family planning, and preventative measures you can take to protect your wellness.
