SACRAMENTO – A record number of Californians were diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease (STD) in 2017, according to a new report released by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). More than 300,000 cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and early syphilis were reported: a 45 percent increase compared to five years ago.

The above statement is taken from the CDPH website.  Date Published by CDPH: May 14, 2018  cdphpress@cdph.ca.gov

Many factors contribute to increasing STD rates. High risk sexual behavior choices, your age, even your gender can be factors. Whether you use condoms, and what type of birth control you use can affect your risk. Lack of insurance to cover testing and treatment costs and cuts to public health services are factors as well.

Regular STD testing and treatment are very important for people who are sexually active, even for those who do not have symptoms. Most people (50% +) who are infected with an STD do not know it.

Sacramento Life Center provides free limited STD testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia. For patients who have a positive test result, treatment cost of prescriptions is covered. Health and sexual practices education as it relates to STD’s is provided.
